People often ask me, when did you start keeping German Sheperds? The answer is easy! I’ve never started, I was born with it !! I was born and raised in a village called Sandared, in the south of Sweden , where we always had one
or more German shepherds at home. My parents where very active members in the Boras
dog-club, of which I became a member. By the age of 15 I was the youngest instructor
in Sweden , which left me little time for other hobbies like going out or visiting the cinema.
The dogs always came first.Three years later I was given the opportunity to join a course at
the state-dog-school in Solleftea. Here I received the certificate for “Teacher in dog service”.
This meant that I was allowed to teach instructors. A very busy but nice time!! Teaching during
the week, taking part on trials in the weekend … I got my interest in breeding when I met Sune
Karlsson, the owner of “Pilfalken” kennel. He was, just like me, born with German Shepherds
and we got along just fine. In 1981 we ended living together and with Sunes father Einar and brother Hakan included, the breeding went on using the name of “Pilfalken”. Not without success I must say! Between the years 1983 and 1990 we had several Swedish Siegers, won the kennel group three times at the Swedish Siegerschau, and had delivered a Swedish working dog champion. And this considered from an ammount of 2-3 litters a year!!! In 1990 Sune and I separated as friends. I met a young
Belgian guy called Marc van Hout who also was on holiday and was visiting Sweden.
He too was born in a dog kennel (as he says himself) .This is where a new chapter in my life started. I pretty
soon moved to Belgium . The only thing I brought with me was my favorite dog ‘Chailas Vicky’, that just had a
litter at my mothers kennel called “Eftas”.
Since my birth I’ve been surrounded by German Shepherd dogs, my father Alfons has been
a dog freak all his life. In the first years my mother had her own business, and my father
went working, what left little time for the dogs. When I was about 6 years old it really started
to get going. The first litter was quickly born, using the kennel name “van de Prinsenakkers”.
By the end of the sixties, beginning seventies we ended up in the VVDH (Vereniging voor Duitse
Herdershonden => society of German shepherds eng.) The society at that time was
still in its construction phase developed to the largest breed society in Belgium
very quickly. The “van de Prinsenakker” kennel became very successful,
due to both workingdogs and showdogs.
The VVDH working dog championship was received twice,
Vlaamse Winner and Vlaamse Winster, etc …., and finally
the desirable VVDH golden breeder’s badge, which had only
been provided three times at that time. Naturally this is where the
basis lies for me, not only for breeding, but also for beauty and training.
Already at young age I had the ambition to try my luck in Germany ,
the homeland of the German Shepherd dog, to give it a chance.
Belgium was too small.
In the middle of the eighties, when my father wanted so slow down,
I met Heinz Henrici. He was the owner of the world famous
kennel “vom Wiesenborn”. Together with Heinz i had several
good dogs, like e.g. ‘Veit vom Weisenborn’. Regarding the
breeding business Heinz was the absolute top, an expert. He did not only teach me a lot of things but it was also Heinz who advised me to, together with Marita whom I had met and married, start up a kennel on our own. I took his advice, and if you are curious how it went on See our ' KENNEL LINEAGE' pages.
